Kentucky Derby isn’t just about the horses, clothing, and decor. You must have delicious eats especially if you are throwing your own party! So today, I am sharing some of the most delicious food, and boy is this making me hungry!

Some of  the food you must have on Derby Day at your derby party to make people really feel like they are at the track or in Kentucky (if you don’t already live there) are Hot Browns, Derby Pie, and Mint Julep’s. You could add in some small pimento cheese sammies, and benedictine spread if you would like for appetizers but the others are a must!  I am so Kentucky we had hot brown’s at my wedding!  So I scoured the internet, and with the help of some friends who know I love food and Derby, found some of the best recipes for you I think out there! So get your shopping list ready, and Happy Eating!

For your Hot Browns why not make individuals! I saw this recipe on Damaris Phillips show “Southern at Heart” on Food Network the other day, and OH MY it looks soooooo GOOOD!!!

Why not something deliciously sweet and wonderfully gooey! I have two choices! One for the throw together at the last minute cook and one for OH MY that looks so good I don’t care how much work it takes! The first Pie is again by Damaris Phillips “Southern at Heart” show on Food Network (the girl is from Louisville how could I not love her)! Just a very Simple Derby Pie! By the way if you don’t know Derby pie is a more decadent pecan pie, meaning we add Chocolate and Bourbon to it! BOOM Delicious!

This next amazingly decadent delicious look dessert is from a site that was just introduced to me this week by a friend, knowing I love all things derby and food! Thank you Allison! The Blog Half Baked Harvest walks you through this dessert step by step, but again just dive in if you think it is delicious! I plan on trying these sometime this summer when I have some time and the ice cream will freeze perfectly in my freezer!  How delicious do these Kentucky Derby Mini Chocolate-Pecan Cakes with Vanilla Bourbon Smash Ice Cream look? and who doesn’t want to eat a cake like this out of a jar on the back porch with the sun beaming down on your skin?

Then finally there is booze! Well Mint Julep’s because you can’t have a Derby party without bourbon! So again here are two what seem to be quite delicious Mint Julep recipes! The first instead of carrying around your glass and getting your hand all cold, why not put the booze on a stick and call it a popsicle! Sounds brilliant to me!  How about this Mint Julep Popsicle recipe? Again Allison gets the credit for introducing me to Honestly Yum, and I thank you for that!

Lastly one more recipe from Damarius!  Her Mint Julep recipe is classic simple and easy. The only that you all need to know is you must serve a mint julep in a pewter cup that has been frosted in the ice chest!  If you are from Kentucky or the South for that matter I am sure you have one that was given to you at your baptism or when you were born, let’s just say “It’s a Southern Thing”!  The key to the Mint Julep is the Simple Syrup, GOOD BOURBON, and the muddling of the mint! So go make 1 or a pitcher and enjoy over crushed ice!

*these are my opinions and I was in no way swayed to provide this post, I just LOVE both these shops and wanted share them on my blog during Derby week*
